Ridstar Q20 Front Wheel Assembly

Replacing just the Ridstar hub motor means disassembling the hub wheel, pulling the planetary gears, cleaning out old grease, and praying you get the hall sensors wired correctly. That is an entire weekend afternoon most riders don’t have.

Our Ridstar Q20 rear wheel replacement arrives fully assembled—laced into the rim, trued, and ready to bolt on. Whether you own a Ridstar Q20 Lite, Q20 1000W, Q20 1500W, or Q20 Pro 2000W, this Ridstar Q20 rear wheel is built to handle your Ridestar ebike’s specific power requirements.

⚠️ ATTENTION: To ensure 100% compatibility, please provide your Ridstar Motor Serial Number (located on the hub casing) during checkout. Ridstar uses specific internal windings for different motor gear batches.

  1. Shift to the smallest gear and remove the Ridstar axle nuts/washers.
  2. Disconnect the motor cable from the frame.
  3. Remove the wheel (derailleur and brake caliper may need loosening).
  4. Install new wheel, tighten axle nuts to torque spec.
  5. Reconnect cable—ensure connectors are clean and fully seated.
  6. Test with wheel off ground before riding.

💡 Tip: Ride gently for 10–25 miles to let new gears seat properly.

Ridstar Q20 1500W Rear Wheel FAQ

When to Replace Your Ridstar Q20 Motor?

  1. Error Codes 07, 35, or 36
  • Error 07: General Ridstar motor failure or connector issue.
  • Error 35 (Phase Loss): One of the three thick phase wires is broken—often inside the axle where you cannot repair it.
  • Error 36 (Hall Sensor Fault): The controller cannot detect motor position. This usually means failed sensors or broken thin wires inside the hub.
  1. Cable Stripped or Torn at Axle

If the cable is cut, pinched, or worn through where it exits the axle, the motor is compromised. Water ingress and shorts are inevitable. Internal wiring repair is possible but requires disassembling the entire motor—exactly what this wheel eliminates.

  1. Accident Damage

Broken axle, bent rim, or cracked hub side plate? Do not attempt to weld or rebuild. Replace the entire wheel for safety.

  1. Grinding / Clicking / Gear Noise

If you hear grinding from the rear hub, the planetary gears are likely stripped . While you could buy just the gears, you would still need to:

  1. Remove the wheel
  2. Unbolt the hub cover
  3. Extract the old gear set
  4. Clean all metal debris (which may have damaged bearings)
  5. Reassemble with fresh grease

With our complete wheel, you skip steps 2-5 entirely. One bolt-on replacement, and the noise is gone.

  1. Motor Runs but Gets Hot / Draws High Current

If your Ridstar rear hub motor runs but overheats quickly, the phase/hall wiring may be mismatched internally, or the windings are shorted. Replacement is the only fix.

Can I just replace the Ridstar Q20 motor core instead?

Yes, but you will spend 2-4 hours disassembling, cleaning, greasing gears, and carefully transferring the wiring harness. If you enjoy that kind of project, we sell motor cores separately. If you value your weekend, this wheel is the answer.
